Elected as the 16th president of the United States, Lincoln was well known for his debates with Stephen Douglas. Lincoln was elected for two terms as well. Lincoln was against slavery, war, and the states having more power. Lincoln is commonly remembered for the Gettysburg Address, Emancipation Proclaimaton, for being assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, and his second inauguril speech. Abraham had an ability for giving many moving speeches as well. Lincoln was most commonly seen wearing a tall top hat, emphasizing his tall heighth(he is famous for being the tallest president as well.). Lincoln had a wife, Marry Todd Lincoln, and four sons. Robert E. Lee

A general for the Confederate states, Lee opposed the idea of secession for his home state of Virginia. Lee also denied Lincoln's offer to become a Union general. He was well respected and admired by his men, and he was also a great motivator. Victories include Seven Days Battle, Second Battle of Bull Run, Battles of Fredericksburg, andChancellorville. The turning point of the war was a terrible loss for General Lee at Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. His final surrender was at the Appotomattox Court House in the Confederate capitol of Richmond,Virginia.

Jefferson Davis

Pesident of the Confederate States. Davis was chosen for his choice of leaders and for being easily influenced. He admitted defeat by trying to flee from the Union armys. He was tried for treason in 1866, then was let go in 1868. Davis was also more moderate in his stance on leaving the Union. Davis did not agree with many people, for he was said to be overbearing, over controlling, and overly meddlesome, as well as being out of touch with people. After he was tried, he was stripped of his ability to run for public office. Davis first married the daughter of Zachary Taylor, Sarah Knox Taylor, but sadly after a visit with Davis's oldest sister, the couple caught malaria and Sarah died.

Grant

Grant was a well-known Civil War general for the Union. Grant won many important battles such as Forts Henry and Donnelson(in the Mississippi Vally), and the battle at Vicksburg, Mississippi cut the Confederacy in half. He gained control of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Grant also directed general Sherman south while Grant took his Union army of the Potomac to Richmond,Virginia, the Confederate capitol. On April 9th 1865, Grant surrounded Appomattox Court House in Richmond. Grant made sure Robert E. Lee would NOT be tried for treason.
